I wanted to take a quick minute to introduce myself and provide a little background information on why I am starting The Vine Less Traveled.
I am a self-taught (aka obsessed) wine geek. I grew up in the Midwest without a wine presence in my family. We ate meat and potatoes with the occasional epic dish of homemade pasta from my mom. My parents weren’t yet wine drinkers and when I was “of age” myself, it was cheap beer and cocktails for me. I actually had my first memorable experience with wine in England in 2001. It was a Pinot Grigio. Sweet, light and oh, so easy! My wine passion grew in the Pacific Northwest – which is where I attended college and researched the Washington wine industry as a senior year business project. From there things only escalated which brings me to my “real” job in the employee benefits world.
Nearly 14 years ago I started in this field and I can credit my boss for introducing me to what fine wine can really be. It was an epiphany to say the least and I have him to thank for expanding my horizons. Luckily, this career began in the San Francisco Bay Area which allowed for weekend trips to wine country, countless wine related events and the ability to speak about wine regularly with others that really enjoyed it.
Fast forward to present and welcome to The Vine Less Traveled! I’ve always wanted to do something bigger with this passion of mine and then the idea for this blog hit me. The focus is not going to be super tight but I aim to provide insight to you all on awesome boutique wineries, wine country experiences, wine clubs, etc. I am going to draw on my plethora of previous experiences, both home and abroad, as well as keep you up to date with new adventures that I think you all should consider. I hope to be a positive influence in your discovery of unique wines – the labels that you may not find at your grocery store but will be quite pleased to have been recommended here.
Thanks for reading and I can’t wait for you to be a part of this adventure with me.
